Available both in Show Time mode (see here), or from the display page for any song, Prompter mode is primarily intended for performers whose hands are occupied by their instrument, or for singers focused on their performance, for whom scrolling through text or a score is not possible or desirable on stage.
Activated using the button , this mode maximises the display size and makes a number of changes to the score so that it is as easy as possible to follow:
- In a lyrics score, if the text has been formatted to display in two columns, Prompter mode will put the lyrics back into a single column to make scrolling easier and increase the character size.
- In a score with standard bars, if there are references back to earlier sections using structure blocks, or if indications such as D.S./D.C. al Coda/Fine are encountered, LiveSet copies the corresponding bars with all the handwritten markings or highlighting around them, so that there is virtually never any need to go backwards in the song.
- In a PDF or image-based score, multiple pages are joined together from top to bottom, also including all their handwritten annotations.
The button lets you start recording a manual scrolling session. Typically, you can use this feature to adapt the scrolling to a live performance, so that the movements can then be replayed without having to use your hands next time. During playback, if the timing is not exactly the same, you can still scroll manually while playback is running to move further ahead or slightly back, and playback will readjust to this new timing.
In Prompter mode, the button lets you switch between dark mode, which is better suited to stage lighting conditions, and light mode.
Finally, the button lets you enable automatic scrolling for the song. This scrolling follows a speed that depends on several factors, which are worth clarifying here.
By long-pressing this same button, "linked" playback mode is activated: . When linked playback mode is enabled, Prompter scrolling is attached to media playback (YouTube or audio file) from the Media Player, or to playback of the song via the Groove Player. Any fast-forward in the media or song will automatically scroll the Prompter to the correct position, based on the pre-recorded timings.
To disable linked playback, simply press the button again.
How automatic scrolling works
By default, automatic scrolling for the song is set so that exactly the configured duration of the song elapses between the start of scrolling and the end (displaying the bottom of the last page, or the last lyrics) (duration configured in the song’s general information).
If no duration has been configured, LiveSet uses a default value of 3 minutes 30 seconds.
You can be even more precise and configure LiveSet to use a variable scrolling speed in two different ways: either by using synchronisation with a YouTube video, or with a fully manual recorded timing.
Scrolling synchronised with YouTube/an audio file
In synchronisation mode with YouTube/an audio file, LiveSet ensures that each recorded time marker reaches exactly the middle of the screen (for lyrics), or the lower two-thirds of the screen (for scores), at exactly the right timing. In this mode, LiveSet can automatically speed up or slow down scrolling during the song.
Note: If you choose to start automatic scrolling from the very top, scrolling may not start immediately (because the first markers may already be above the target area). It is therefore completely normal for scrolling to start only after a few seconds, so that the timing is respected. However, if you start scrolling after already scrolling the Prompter manually, LiveSet will find the timing that matches the position and play the scrolling from there.
Note: Once the timings have been recorded, you do not need an active Internet connection to use this feature.
See the chapter on synchronisation with audio media to learn how to define precise markers.
Fully manual scrolling
To record a fully manual (and variable) scrolling speed, simply start recording with the button . If time markers already exist, LiveSet will ask for confirmation (because they will be lost). Recording then starts immediately, the button turns red (
), and all your movements are recorded with the timing. Once the movement is complete, press the red button (stop) to stop recording.
