This page brings together the documentation for the different editors used for song structure: splitting into named sections ("A", "B"... or "V", "C", etc.), repeats, segno and coda, symbols, etc.
Most elements related to a song’s structure can be defined by tapping the appropriate bar line. The following features appear in the editing area:
The first section lets you change the appearance of the current bar line. Note that the repeat symbol for two bars (or more) also lets you enter the number of bars concerned:
The following symbols can be used (but may be disabled depending on the position of the bar line, typically at the beginning or end of a line):
-
lets you change the time signature during the song.
-
inserts a segno above the current bar line, slightly to the right.
-
inserts a coda symbol above the current bar line, slightly to the left.
-
lets you define an alternate ending for a repeat. LiveSet then lets you change the displayed number, and supports both a comma-separated list of numbers (1,2,3), and ranges (1-3).
-
lets you define a "named" section in the song. The editor lets you choose standard letters (A, B, C, D, but also V for verse, IN for intro, etc.), or define an alternative name (up to three characters).
Note that named sections can then be used when creating structure lines (see below), and also when applying a groove to the song in order to play it back.
When a bar line is selected, LiveSet also displays, around it, two or four possible text areas (at the end of the previous bar, top and bottom, and at the beginning of the next bar, top and bottom), which you can edit simply by tapping them:
These text blocks remain attached to the bar line, and are intended for additional annotations. Note that LiveSet can understand a number of elements, which it will use when you enable playback of the entire song using a groove:
- An indication such as "3x", "x4", "3 times" before a repeat bar will be understood.
- An indication such as "D.S. al Coda" or "DS al Fine" will also be correctly interpreted to return playback to the segno position.
Structure lines
When using named sections in a song (for example, V for verse, then C for chorus), you may later need to indicate in the song that one or more of these sections should be played again, possibly with additional details.
For this purpose, LiveSet lets you insert references to existing sections between two lines of the score. To insert a structure line, activate the toolbox from the toolbar (), then drag a structure element (
) to the location you want in the score (if you only tap it, the element will be added at the end of the current song).
The structure line editor is then displayed:
The appearance can be configured horizontally or vertically in case several sections follow one another.
LiveSet displays the names of sections already present in the song; simply tap them to add them. When adding a named section, you can add associated comments to it (e.g. a number of repeats, a specific detail, etc.).
The symbol lets you add a section name that does not (yet) exist in the score.
Finally, the symbol lets you add additional text, not associated with a section, but visually aligned.
