A LiveSet score is made up of consecutive rows (like text), and each row contains one or more layers.
Layers can be one of the following types:
- Chords: with or without bar lines, these rows indicate the song’s basic harmony.
- Rhythmic: with or without bar lines/staves, these rows indicate a basic rhythm.
A layer is present from the beginning to the end of the song, but its appearance can change from one row to another. For example, a layer may be taller/wider on certain rows, or even include staves on some rows and not on others (so it can, if needed, be made invisible).
Note: structural elements, such as section names, symbols such as segno and coda, or numbered repeat endings, only appear on the first layer configured to display bar lines.
Defining layers
To define which layers appear in the score, in Edit mode, use the button in the main toolbar.
The following window then opens:
In this window, on the left, you’ll find the existing layers (which you can reorder by dragging them up or down), and on the right, the buttons used to add a layer.
Configuring layers
To configure how layers appear in the score (their size, position, whether they include staves, etc.), in Edit mode, tap the small handle to the left of a row (), and choose the “Layout” option.
The editing area then displays the layer editor:
Next, tap the layer you want to modify in the score (you can easily switch from one to another), then choose whether the changes apply to the whole score (Global) or just to the current row:
From the editing area, you can then:
- Specify whether the current layer includes bar lines/staves.
- Adjust the size of the layer (increase/reduce)
- Adjust the offset of the layer (move it further away from or closer to the other layers, for example to make them overlap slightly
- Adjust the height reserved for this layer in each row (allowing you to tighten the whole page structure globally if needed).
Multiple pages
By default, LiveSet continues adding rows to the same page, but when the limit of a printed page is exceeded (between A4 and US Letter format), Edit mode makes this visible.
If you print a song to PDF and it overflows, automatic scaling is applied so everything fits on the page.
To move a row to the next page (or to the previous page), tap the handle of the relevant row (on the left), and choose “To next page” or “To previous page” (only if it is the first row of a page). LiveSet creates/removes pages in the song as needed.
Note: In Prompter mode, LiveSet merges the pages and displays them all continuously.
