The lyrics editor built into LiveSet is relatively simple, but it does include a number of subtleties, which are described here.
LiveSet supports both basic lyrics (text lines only) and lyrics with chords (displayed above the text).a0
In general, LiveSet splits lyrics into paragraphs, with a number of associated settings (style, colour, structure, etc.). You can style whole paragraphs (if nothing is selected), or just specific words/letters. Simply select the text, then apply the styles/colours you want.
To add a lyrics block, activate the toolbox from the toolbar (), then drag a structure element (
) to the desired position in the score (if you simply press it, the element will be added to the end of the current song).
Note: if you create a new score and choose the "Lyrics" type, LiveSet immediately creates a new lyrics block and opens the editor.
In the editor, simply write (or paste) the text you want, and split paragraphs using line breaks:
For each paragraph or selected text, you can:
-
assign it a part name
-
make it bold
-
make it italic
-
underline it
-
change its colour
The button lets you define global settings for the entire current lyrics block:
- By default, LiveSet splits the text between two paragraphs if it goes beyond the page. "Ignore page limits" lets you stretch the page beyond a standard format and keep all the text on the same page. Note that this type of format will therefore no longer be printable.
- "Two columns" lets you arrange the text in two columns to save space.
-
Finally, LiveSet lets you adjust the font size used (applicable only to the score in page mode, because in Prompter mode the text is automatically adjusted to fill the entire screen).
Using chords
Each paragraph can contain alternating lines: one line with chords, and the other line with text. LiveSet understands and detects this. However, you need to keep the same principle throughout a single paragraph (you cannot use chords on only one line within a block).
Note: Chords are displayed according to the user preferences (for example, using "m", "min", or "-" for a minor chord). Like chords in a standard chord line, they are "clickable" so they can be played or displayed, and they adapt if the score is transposed to another key.
Interaction with Prompter
Prompter mode (more info here) lets you display lyrics as a scrolling teleprompter. Prompter mode makes a number of adjustments compared with lyrics displayed in standard page mode:
- Two-column text is converted back to a single column.
- Block colours are slightly adjusted depending on the day/night mode choice.
- Multiple pages, where relevant, are merged so they scroll directly.
The advantage of these adjustments is that, with LiveSet, you can easily prepare printable lyric scores (on standard paper), possibly in two columns... and display them in a usable way in live conditions via Prompter mode when needed.
