When editing a score containing a melodic layer (see structure of a score), tapping a note, a rest, or an empty position on the staff displays the melody editor in the editing area:
Editing a melody bar is based on entering the desired notes or rests one by one. LiveSet automatically makes available only the note/rest durations that are possible at the current position.
At the top of the keyboard, you will find the following controls:
- The
and
buttons let you navigate from one symbol to another.
- The
selector lets you adjust the currently selected note (move it up or down).
- The
button disables or re-enables automatic filling with rests. By default, LiveSet fills the bar with the appropriate rests (see more details in the rhythm editor).
- The
button lets you adjust certain settings for the current and following bars: change the clef, octave (8va, 8vb, 15va or 15vb), or key signature to indicate a key change.
- Finally, the
button moves the current bar to a new line.
Next is the note duration selector. The principle is to select a duration from those available, then press a note on the piano keyboard (or the rest button) to confirm the input.
1. Choose the desired note duration
2. Press the desired note
3. The note has been added and the next position is selected
If a note already exists at the selected position, you can change its duration using one of the note buttons, change its pitch by selecting another key on the piano keyboard, or convert it into a rest by pressing the rest button on the right.
At the bottom of the input keyboard, several buttons allow you to add additional musical elements:
-
lets you create a tie to the following note (activate it on the preceding note).
-
lets you start a triplet. Press the button several times to change the number of beats covered by the triplet (one beat, two beats, or four beats).
- The symbols on the right allow you to add various accents or articulations above individual notes.
