Synchronizing a song with YouTube in LiveSet has several uses and is not just a basic link to a URL. It is indeed possible to more precisely associate different timings of a video with specific positions in the song.
This association has several purposes:
- Allow precise rehearsal or playback of each distinct section of the song (e.g. chorus, bridge, etc.) using saved locators
- Precisely control the automatic scrolling of the score/lyrics in Prompter mode
Prerequisite: a YouTube video URL must be entered in the score's general information. Simply copy and paste the URL from your browser.
If everything is correctly configured, you can open the YouTube player using the button from the main song view.
Recording locators
To record precise timings for positions in the YouTube track, you need to open the song in Edit mode (using the button).
In this mode, a new button appears in the YouTube player. To add a locator, activate locator mode using this button, then tap a position in your score, typically:
- a bar
- a bar line
- a reference to a section of the song
The exact current timestamp of the YouTube video will then be recorded and associated with that position in the score.
Note: this also works for songs in PDF/image format. In that case, the visual position is simply used.
Using a locator
To use a saved locator, simply press the button in the YouTube player, then tap one of the orange areas.
Playback of the YouTube track will instantly jump to the corresponding recorded timestamp.
Deleting a locator
To delete an existing locator, activate Edit mode and use the same button as for using them.
In Edit mode, each locator area includes a delete button (a small cross in the top right), which you can press to remove the corresponding locator.
