The lyrics editor built into LiveSet is relatively simple, but still includes a number of subtleties described here.
LiveSet supports both basic lyrics (text-only lines) and lyrics with chords (displayed above the text).
In general, LiveSet splits lyrics into paragraphs, to which a number of settings are associated (style, color, structure, etc.).
To add a lyrics block, activate the toolbox from the toolbar (), then drag a lyrics element (
) to the desired position in the score (if you simply tap it, it will be added at the end of the current song).
Note: if you create a new score and choose the “Lyrics” type, LiveSet immediately creates a new lyrics block and opens the editor.
In the editor, you simply write (or paste) the desired text, and separate paragraphs using line breaks:
For each paragraph, you can:
-
assign a section/part name
-
make it bold
-
change its color
The button allows you to define global settings for the entire current lyrics block:
- By default, LiveSet splits text between paragraphs if it exceeds the page.
“Ignore page limits” allows you to stretch the page beyond standard format and keep all the text on a single page. Note that this format will no longer be printable. - “Two columns” allows you to arrange the text into two columns to save space
-
Finally, LiveSet allows you to adjust the font size used
Using chords
Each paragraph can contain alternating lines: one line with chords, and the next with lyrics. LiveSet detects this automatically.
However, this structure must be consistent throughout a paragraph (you cannot use chords on only one line within a block).
Note: chords are displayed according to user preferences (e.g. using “m”, “min”, or “-” for minor chords). Like chords in a standard chord line, they are clickable to be played or displayed, and they adapt when the score is transposed to another key.
Interaction with Prompter mode
Prompter mode (more info here) allows lyrics to be displayed as a scrolling teleprompter.
This mode applies several adjustments compared to the standard page view:
- Two-column text is converted back to a single column
- Block colors are slightly adjusted depending on light/dark mode
- Multiple pages, when relevant, are merged into a continuous scroll
The advantage of these adjustments is that it becomes very easy in LiveSet to prepare printable lyric sheets (for example in two columns on standard paper), and still display them in a usable way in live conditions using Prompter mode when needed.
