A LiveSet score is composed of consecutive lines (like text), and each line contains one or more layers.
Layers can be of the following types:
- Chords: with or without bar lines, these lines indicate the basic harmony of the song
- Rhythmic: with or without bar lines/staff, these lines indicate a basic rhythm
A layer exists from the beginning to the end of the song, but its presentation can vary from one row to another. For example, a layer can be larger/wider on certain lines, or even include staff notation on some rows and not on others (making it effectively invisible if needed).
Note: structural elements such as section names, symbols like segno and coda, or numbered repeat endings only appear on the first layer that is configured to display bar lines.
Defining layers
To define which layers are present in the score, in Edit mode, use the button in the main toolbar.
The following window then opens:
In this window:
- On the left: the existing layers (which can be reordered by dragging them up or down)
- On the right: buttons to add new layers
Configuring the layout
To configure how layers are displayed in the score (their size, position, whether they include staff notation, etc.), in Edit mode, tap the small handle on the left of a row () and select “Layout”.
The editing area then displays the layer editor:
Next, tap in the score the layer you want to modify (you can switch between them easily), then choose whether the changes apply to the entire score (Global) or only to the current row:
From the editing area, you can then:
- Specify whether the current layer includes bar lines and/or staves
- Adjust the size of the layer (increase/decrease)
- Adjust the offset of the layer (move it closer to or further from other layers, for example to slightly overlap them)
- Adjust the vertical space allocated to this layer on each row (allowing you to globally tighten or expand the page layout)
Multiple pages
By default, LiveSet continues adding lines on the same page, but when the limit of a printed page is exceeded (between A4 and US Letter), this becomes visible in Edit mode.
If you export a song to PDF and it exceeds one page, automatic scaling is applied so everything fits on a single page.
To move a line to the next page (or to the previous page), tap the handle of the corresponding line (on the left), and select “Move to next page” or “Move to previous page” (only if it is the first line of a page). LiveSet will create or remove pages as needed.
Note: in Prompter mode, LiveSet merges all pages and displays them continuously.
